LOST INSIDE YOUR CITY

as a boy
i seen the way my Mom & Dad carried on
i remember holding hands with one of my brothers or sister
walking thru downtown Los Angeles
seen the handicap
saw the newspaper & magazine stands
the traffic and the flashing cross signals
and the crowded streets filled with people of all races
the sidewalks were busy back in 71

as a man
seen how women fill the love i longed for as a youth
each woman i was with
gave me a chance to grow
the beauty of a white woman
very much appealed to me
and maybe they saw that too
but along with all the thousands of secrets
a woman holds she'll never tell you the truth

here i am
lost inside your city
it's a place with no name
but it's memories can live on
like an open book
lost in your city
i can hear music
and your foot steps
that i long to hear your knock upon my door

each hour as it passes
i pray i stay healthy
to fill these desires & dreams
make it a reality
i've been a poor dreamer
i can see a landscape
and a mind & heart that can make away
where the Sun rises & clouds that pour a blessing
that sheds life in these inner ~ human cities
